breakfast :

blueberry breakfast popover : I found this recipe in kitchen garden magazine, september 1997. I was intrigued and had to try it ... it was love first bite!

drinks :

coffee liquor : yes, virginia, you can make your very own coffee liquor and much more flavorful then the stuff on grocery store shelves.

hubby's city sunset : lafe's creation and a heck of a high ball that is refreshing, spicy and delicious!

dad's glögg : A wonderful christmas tradition ever since he married kurre!

margarita de oro : a classic beverage served strained or on the rocks!

homemade sweet & sour drink mixer (for margaritas) : this stuff is so easy to make! you may wonder why you were buying that stuff, with all those preservatives, in the grocery store.

salads :

turbo vegetable salad : a delightfully simple and tremendously tasty salad. the flavors are bright and light and reminiscent of the south of france. flavored with some of my favorite ingredients … fennel and tarragon.

sugar snap pea salad with sherry and shallot vinaigrette : refreshing spring salad of sweet snaps and sultry shallot dressing really wakes up your mouth!

baked goat cheese salad : this salad is kinda ying-yang; it's hot and cold, it's soft and crunchy, it's tangy and mellow. it's a really good salad, too. allow a day to marinate the cheese.

soups :

new stuff ... gotta try it potato, leek, and fennel soup : this classic soup, updated with low-fat sensibilities and accented with the delightful fennel bulb. hot or cold this stuff is powerfully good!

indian summer carrot soup : a spicey-sweet soup that can be served hot or slightly chilled.

sides :

janssons frestelse (jansson's temptation) : tell a person of the swedish persuasion you like this potato gratin dish and you will have a friend for life. this dish contains a specialty item ... that is (what else) swedish anchovies. fear not hater of anchovies, these are slightly sweet and not very "fishy" tasting. try it, you'll like it.

mashed potatoes, caramelized onions with apple cider : this is were to two apples (pomme de terre et pommes) come together. the caramelized onion and cider add a slightly sweet dimension to the old standby.

barb miller's pickled beets : barb miller, that's right the one who lives in 10 mile, indiana! i hear she makes delicious pickled beets! that's what laurie says and this girl knows her beets!

entrées :

köttbullar (swedish meatballs) : those swedes, what a bunch of meatballs. to be served, of course, with lingonberry sauce, boiled red potatoes and gravy! (don't tell my swedish mom but when we make meatballs at our home, we use ground chicken or turkey and not the piggy and the cow!)

pasta puttanesca : this is the most amazing sauce! it is soooo full of flavor it's beyond words. I got this recipe from the cooking show "TASTE"; i think that david rosengarten is a divine creator!

spanokopita : ummmm, spinach and feta pie wrapped in a crispy phyllo.

risotto with broccoli rabe : doesn't this just sound like a mouth-watering dish? give it a try. this recipe was created by paul franson of st. helena, ca and found in sunset magazine, november 1997.

twice baked butter nut squash : delightful part of a meatless and low-fat entré. A great do ahead dish, too.

desserts :

watermelon and raspberry sorbet : it's my idea of a light and delightful dessert.

jen's lemon & fennel biscotti : a tasty and crunchy treat. i love it dunked in a hot cup of americano caffé or a chilled glass of vin santo.

miscellaneous :

crème fraîche : here it is ... the naturally thickened, slightly soured cream. it is great for things savory as well as sweet. watch out, it can cost some bucks to buy crème fraîche at a fancy gourmet store. but who would have thought it is so easy to make. use it for any recipe calling for cream or sour cream.

cilantro pesto :here is something familiar, yet exotic. toss it with cold or even better hot pasta or slop it on a crunchy little crostini. the apricot mellows-out the cilantro taste that some people find offensive.
